Other Information / Remarks
George Joynes was awarded the Military Medal which was announced in the London Gazette No. 30498, dated Monday 28 January 1918. George Joynes' younger brother, Thomas Frederick Joynes served as a Gunner with the Royal Garrison Artillery. He was wounded towards the end of the war at the age of 18 and was previously employed by the Garforth Colliery Company.
George Joynes' unit, 19th Company, Labour Corps was formed when the 22nd (Labour) Battalion, The West Yorkshire Regiment was split up on 14 May 1917. Two of the companies became 18th Company, and the remaining two became 19th Company.
