Fred Mouncey had previously served with the Royal Engineers and West Yorkshire Regiment, probably the 18th (2nd Bradford Pals)
Bn. His service number was 18/1578, the 18/ prefix being given to the first recruits to the battalion when it was being raised.
He was a member of Barwick Cricket Club. He is further commemorated on the headstone of his parents within All Saints'
Churchyard.
His cousin, William Brook Mouncey served with the West Yorkshire Regiment in the 1st/5th Bn. William Mouncey was wounded
and gassed but ultimately survived the war.
